RISING START: ADAMS TRAPPING BAITS AND LURES

By Chris A. Berson
Many trappers make their own baits and lures.  Often, these trappers are using recipes that they have been verbally told of or that they have found online or in books.  Few create recipes that are their own and even fewer find a way to market their recipe.  A very select few are able to create an entire line of baits and lures and form a successful company.  Jeff Adams of Adams Trapping Baits and Lures was able to break barriers and do just that.
Jeff Adams got his start as many others have done before him, by creating baits and lures for his own use.  Other trappers in his local area tried his baits and lures and were successful using them.  About four years ago, after a demand for these baits and lures was created through word of mouth and after years of trial and error, a company was born, Adams Trapping Baits and Lures.
Mr. Adams is very humble.  He understands that there is no such thing as quick success.  Most of the big name companies in the trapping industry started out just as he did, and he continues to improve his product while keeping to the recipes.  Mr. Adams considers what trappers are looking for, an example of which is the forthcoming improvement of something so simple as the label.  He knows that many trappers get agitated that labels get wet and either rub off or become unreadable. Mr. Adams will be improving his labels to where this agitation will be a thing of the past. It is the little things combined with a superior product that is enabling his entry in to the baits and lures market.
Adams Trapping Baits and Lures continues to create new baits and lures.  The baits and lures are created based on observations seen in the woods and fields.  They are not quick mixes that are thrown together and sold just because a few quick catches were made with a test product.  Mr. Adams says that for every one product that is added to his product line, ten were tossed out.  Potential products are sent across the U.S. for testing to find out which regions and enviroments that they will be successful in.  Adams Trapping Baits and Lures makes sure each product is heavily tested and will be successful.
Regardless of its cats, coyote, fox or coons that you are after, Adams Trapping Baits and Lures has a product for you.  They offer four Dog Proof Baits, two are pellet based and two are creams.  There are three K-9 products and three gland lures. One product of theirs that really stands out is one for K-9′s called “Stank”.  Their cat product is called “Furball” and is mink gland based lure and is especially productive in Southern and Desert regions.
Like many other companies, Mr. Adams buys much of the products he uses to produce his products from his customers.  He puts the figure at 90% of what he uses comes from customers.  Many of the purchases come in the form of trades.  This very much in line with a trapper philosophy: Trappers Helping Trappers.
Jeff Adams formed Adams Trapping Baits and Lures because of demand for his productive products.  He continues to work on new products, of which a new coyote lure will be likely be appearing very soon.  Mr. Adams loves the tradition of trapping and his products are top quality.  Every product is made by him personally.  In time we might be seeing the Adams line compared with Grawe’s, Caven’s, and Marsyada’s.  Only time will time for this rising star.
